Cole Hay has an Honours degree in English and is a copywriter in the morning, but turns those words into pictures in the afternoon. She has been smashing acrylic paint on canvas and board since 2005, but only really found her way producing commercial art since 2015. She loves to work on commission and give life to clients’ creative vision.
After a key move to Gouritsmond in 2018, Cole’s original work has developed organically. Her focus is on mirroring the inner human world through various subjects in a riot of colour and symbolism. Recurring themes are ecology, productivity and an ethereal sense of identity and purpose. Her florals represent the fleeting nature of life, capturing living subjects in the height of their bloom.
In a bid to be more hands-on, Cole has ventured into mixed media, now including paper collage, spray paint and paint markers in her acrylic paintings. Her extensive use of symbol aims to strike an emotional chord with viewers and to make the consumption of art a more engaging, cognitive process.
